12 Houses or Bhavas and their Significances
In the same way as zodiac is divided into 12 Rashis there is another type of division in Astrology called Houses. Here also the Division is 12. In many astrological styles the two divisions are regarded as one and the same. The first house of any natal chart is counted from the Ascendant or Lagna. Houses are named as Bhavas or the Expressions. Each House denote different aspect of Life. Counted from the Lagna the first Bhava stands for physical traits. The second show the material or possessive aspect etc. Below are given various Bhavas or Houses and their significances. Carefully go through the Bhavas as they will help the aspirant to read the Chakra or the Chart accurately.
First House or Lagna Bhava : The first bhava or house is reckoned from the Ascendant or Lagna i.e., the point from where the sun has raised in the natal Chart. This House gives the idea of the physical traits of the individual. Presence of Benefic Planets shows good results and presence of inauspicious planets in the lagna Bhava shows bad results. Also the lord of the Lagna and his placement in the chart should be taken into account for a detailed examination of the health and physical strength of the native.
Second House or Dwitiya Bhava : Second Bhava or house denotes the possession. It may be money or property especially static. Besides the money and possessions it also shows one’s activity in the life.
Third House or Tritiya Bhava: The tritiya Bhava is associated with the Bhratri Bhava or Brothers and Sisters. It tells about the relationship we have with our brothers and sisters. It also spreads light on the relationship with our neighbours being the children of the same motherland.
Fourth House or Chaturtha Bhava: The Chaturtha Bhava or fourth house stands for home, mother and vehicle. In short it shows all about the things which give us happiness. A good fourth house promises a good home, a beautiful relationship with mother and number of vehicles.
Fifth House or Panchama Bhava: Panchama Bhava or fifth house according to Vedic Astrology is very auspicious. The lord of this bhava is also auspicious. A strengthened Lord promises good progeny, good understanding of scriptures and good education.
Sixth House or Sasti Bhava: Sixth house or Shasti bhava is according to Vedic astrology is mildly inauspicious. It is generally looked down as house of enemies, diseases, debts, pain, sorrow and ill luck.
Seventh House or Saptama Bhava: The Saptama Bhava stands for marriage, relationships, Partnerships, Wife/Husband(The Life Partner), and her relatives etc.
Eighth House or Astama Bhava: This Bhava stands for Life period or death. This is according to Vedic Astrology is considered as most inauspicious house of all. This House is most inauspicious the other two being the 12th and 6th House. These three houses are also labeled as Trika Houses., the houses of Inauspiciousness.
Ninth House or Navama Bhava : Vedic Astrology holds this house as most auspicious. This Bhava gives us an estimation of our stored good deeds, Paternal Love and their status, the religious thinking and specially long travels. This house is house of Good Luck.
Tenth House or Dashama Bhava: The house is the house of Karma. Our Profession, the ability to discharge our duty, the profession for livelihood, power to command and opportunities.
Eleventh House or Ekadasha Bhava : Generally this bhava goes for profits, friends, hopes, ideals. Some scriptures regards this house as the house of elder brother.
Twelfth House or Dwadash Bhava : if this house is inauspicious in your horoscope then stay assured you may do thousand efforts you can’t save your money. Yes you are right. This stands for expenditure, imprisonment and previous life knowledge.
